Best Used iPad to Buy in 2026 (And Which Ones to Avoid)

September 14, 2026 · QuickDeals

iPads hold their value better than almost any electronic device. A 3-year-old iPad still feels fast, still gets software updates, and costs half what it did new. The trick is knowing which models are worth buying used and which are too old.

The Best Used iPads in 2026

1. iPad Air M1 (5th Gen, 2022) — Best Overall Value

Used price: $280-350 (64GB) / $350-420 (256GB)

Why: The M1 chip is still incredibly fast in 2026 — it runs every app and game without lag. USB-C port, Apple Pencil 2 support, 10.9" screen. This iPad will get software updates through at least 2028-2029.

Get the 256GB model if you can. 64GB fills up fast, especially with games, photos, and downloaded shows.

2. iPad Pro 11" M1 (3rd Gen, 2021) — Best for Productivity

Used price: $380-450 (128GB) / $450-550 (256GB+)

Why: ProMotion 120Hz display (noticeably smoother scrolling), Face ID, quad speakers, Thunderbolt USB-C. If you're using the iPad for work — note-taking, art, video editing — the Pro features are worth the premium over the Air.

3. iPad 10th Gen (2022) — Best Budget

Used price: $220-280 (64GB)

Why: USB-C, 10.9" screen, A14 chip. It's the cheapest iPad that still has USB-C and a modern design. Good for streaming, browsing, light productivity, and kids.

Caveat: Only supports Apple Pencil 1 (with a USB-C adapter, annoyingly). If you need the Pencil, get the Air instead.

4. iPad Mini 6 (2021) — Best Portable

Used price: $280-340 (64GB)

Why: The 8.3" screen is perfect for reading, commuting, and one-handed use. A15 chip, USB-C, Apple Pencil 2 support. Nothing else this size is this good.

iPads to Avoid

Any iPad with Lightning (pre-2022 base models)

The iPad 9th gen (2021) and earlier use Lightning, not USB-C. They still work fine, but:

If you find one under $150, it's still okay for kids or casual use. But don't pay more than that.

iPad Pro 2018-2020 (A12X / A12Z)

These are old enough that software support is reaching its end. The A12X was amazing in 2018 but iPadOS updates will stop within 1-2 years. At $250-300 used, you're better off with a newer iPad Air M1 for $50 more.

Any iPad with less than 64GB

32GB iPads still exist on the used market. Don't buy them. After iPadOS and preinstalled apps, you'll have about 20GB of usable storage. That's not enough for anything.

What to Check Before Buying

Where to Get the Best Price

The move: iPad Air M1 256GB from a high-rated eBay seller for $350-400. You get 90% of the iPad Pro experience at 60% of the price, with 3+ years of software support remaining.
